Attitudes of Serbian Population On Green Transition
Project Type
Research Publication
Date
June 2024
This project, supported by the Open Society Foundation and conducted by Novi treći put, explored how citizens in Serbia perceive the green transition and its social and economic implications. Through nationwide surveys and focus groups across urban and mining regions, the research examined attitudes toward phasing out coal, renewable energy, climate change, and environmental policies. The findings show that a majority of citizens support moving away from coal and favor renewable sources such as wind and solar energy, while remaining cautious about nuclear power and mining. The study highlights that environmental awareness is growing in Serbia, but that economic security and access to affordable alternatives remain key conditions for a just and sustainable transition.
