New Third Way and Australian Embassy Host Expert Roundtable on Climate, Energy Transition, and Security

In partnership with the Australian Embassy in Serbia, New Third Way (Novi treći put) recently organized a closed expert roundtable examining the critical intersection of climate change, energy transition, and national security. The session opened with introductory remarks from H.E. Peter Truswell, Australian Ambassador to Serbia, and Dimitrije Milić from New Third Way, followed by a keynote address by Professor George Carter of the Australian National University.

Drawing on insights from Australia and the Pacific region, Professor Carter’s presentation focused on global climate finance flows and the expanding geopolitical dimensions of the clean energy transition.

Key Discussion Themes and Insights

Moderated by Dimitrije Milić and Mijat Kostić, the discussion brought together representatives from academia, government institutions, the private sector, and civil society. Participants addressed the future of renewable energy in Serbia, regional transition challenges, and avenues for stronger cooperation between the public sector, industry, researchers, and international partners.

The second part of the session focused on climate security, critical infrastructure resilience, energy source diversification, and the specific climate risk profile of the Western Balkans. Discussions highlighted the growing importance of climate diplomacy and strategic energy policy in building long-term regional stability.
